Thinking InThe Shower With Drillbit

 Scary Times
Back to Full Blog

So on Friday my wife called me at work and wanted to know if she should take our daughter into the ER because she had a high fever etc. etc. We decided to wait and see. Later that evening it became apparent that we needed to get into the ER. We left at 5 got there at 6 and got seen at 7. By 10 they said she would have to be admitted. Since my other two kids were at home with my parents I left for home and my wife stayed overnight with parrot.
Here is where it gets scary for my oldest daughter.
Last year my grandfather went into the hospital and we told my daughter he would be fine. He wasn't.
Two weeks ago my grandmother-in-law went into the hospital with the same results.
So now her little sister is suddenly admitted into the hospital and needless to say she was scared s-less.
Here is where it gets scary for me.
I showed up as soon as I could the next morning to find out that my daughter was in the ICU; when I get to the room two doctors are in talking to my wife and she is crying, hard.
Everything was OK but she was so tired and just got overwhelmed. I just about passed out.
After some tough nights, she is doing better and between Mackenzie and I we will keep you all updated on her progress.
Her twin has an ear infection and a temp of 102.something but is doing well with my parents watching her.

Keep sending happy thoughts and prayers for our little parrot.

I believe that parrot is fine, that comes from my belief in God. I was a child with asthma and it rarely slowed me down. My mom kept a watchful eye on me, however she let me be me. This has been a rough season change and minor health issues are turning up in a big way. Call it a heads-up on parrot's health; God's little butter on the bread.

Parrot, along with all of you, are in my thoughts and prayers. A special prayer for Pumpkin; these are hard times for her, due to recent events. I am happy to know that your parents are taking care of the girls while you two are away.

Give MacKenzie a hug for me and a virtual hug from me to you. Hang in there big guy. Just remember: You da daddy!

Keep the Faith~ Scott/Cuddle

Nothing scarier than health issues with young children. We had our share as our children were growing up. I am amazed how quickly you were processed through Emergency at the hospital. That must have been some fever!

We will certainly keep you in our thoughts!

My prayers go out to all of you. There's nothing more scary to a parent than to have one of their children sick or hurt. Trust in God.
I'm glad your parents are there to help with the other one. Maybe her visiting her sister in the hospital will help calm her.
You'll be in my thoughts & prayers.
Send hugs to MacKenzie too

No matter how bad off I was financially or if I was hurting or out of sorts in anyway...the one constant thought of relief and peace was..."well, at least my kids are healthy!"

And when they aren't the whole world is tipped off its axis until they are again!

Even now, at 21, 19 and 17...I still think the same thing...as long as MY KIDS are healthy...and I suspect I will think like this for the rest of my life!

All's right with the world as long as they are safe and sound.

Here's hoping that by now, May 13th, things are looking up and daughter is on the mend!!!

Ear aches....kids' ear aches...the worse....

Ear aches take a grown man down to his knees! Almost as bad as labor pains...ALMOST!

From one parent to another....speedy recovery for the kiddos!

Hi Cuddle,
Thanks for the kind words. Everyone is home and apparently on the mend.
The hardest part now is keeping them calm so the asthma stays in check.

Hi Anexplorer.
Thanks for your thoughts
I agree that it is amazing how fast we were taken care of. I think it is natural for adults to pick up the pace when kids are sick or hurt. I'll tell you something though, it sure didn't feel fast when it was happening.

Hi secret,
You are right there is absolutely nothing more scary. I'll tell you what, little kids look even smaller in those big hospital beds. She is home now and seems to be on the mend.
Thanks for your positive thoughts.

Hi Rubble,
That is so true! There have been many times when I have thought the exact same thing. When it was all going down nothing else mattered and my mind was able to plan hundreds of contingencies to cover bills and catch up on work; and the ones that weren't covered I simply didn't care about.
I look forward to being able to think that the world is right again simply because all three kiddos are health.

Seeing a child hospitalized is a parent's worst nightmare. My older son contracted meningitis when he was but ten months old and our family doctor pulled me aside to tell me the lad had a fifty-fifty chance of surviving the night. Nearly thirty-two years on, through good times and bad, I try to remember that my prayers that night were answered and that I have been blessed each day with a still-healthy son. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during these times.

Mr. Drill...I'm a little slow on the uptake...got it now, you and Miss Mackenzie are married!

I think it's soooo cool you blog too...as I told your sweetie...I wish my fiance would blog but he's so busy and has a privacy issue...but man, he'd be the best blogger! And together we'd make a great blogging team like you and Ms. Mack!

So back to your kids...you have three! Like me! So the chances that at some point SOME kid is always sick!! Thankfully now that they are 17, 19 and almost 21,...it isn't so dramatic!!! But for awhile there man, some kid was always suffering a toothache, ear ache...tummy ache...head ache!!! It gets better!

Hang in there!

So happy things are settling back down for you guys in the health regard!
